About the Expert
Ajay Srivastava is a senior economic policy expert with nearly three decades of experience in public policy, international trade analysis, public finance, and sectoral economic strategy. A member of the Indian Economic Service (IES), he served the Government of India for close to thirty years across several key economic ministries and policy institutions.
During his career, he worked on a wide spectrum of policy areas including foreign trade, energy economics, agriculture and fisheries policy, industrial development, labour markets, telecom sector analysis, and financial markets. His roles involved economic research, policy evaluation, programme monitoring, and preparation of analytical inputs for senior policymakers and government decision-making.
Mr. Srivastava has contributed to economic analysis and policy inputs used in major government documents such as trade performance reviews, policy reports, and analytical studies on sectoral economic trends. His experience combines macro-economic analysis with sector-specific policy evaluation, providing a comprehensive understanding of India’s economic and regulatory landscape.
He has also been associated with financial oversight, programme evaluation, and policy implementation across various government initiatives, providing deep insights into public finance, regulatory frameworks, and government decision-making processes.
Mr. Srivastava holds an M.Phil. in Social Sciences from Punjab University, an MBA in Finance from IGNOU, and a B.A. (Honours) in Economics from the University of Delhi. He has also undergone advanced professional training from institutions including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), International Labour Organization (ILO), Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow.
He is the author of the book “Social Security System in India” and has published articles on economic policy and governance.
